Armstrong Marine, Inc. delivered a new 40 foot aluminum catamaran to the Port Angeles harbor in a remarkable 58 days. The Coast Guard inspected and approved water taxi, powered by twin FPT 6.7 liter diesel engines and 305 UltraJet water pumps, reaches speeds in excess of 30 knots being fueled by twin 180 gallon tanks. The hull structure of the catamaran provides a platform for up to fifteen passengers to ride comfortably in the aft-situated cabin. To fight off the cold Alaskan environment for which the boat was designed, a diesel fired 14,000 BTU heater paired with blowers robbing heat from the engines will warm the cabin and provide window defrost. Boarding the vessel can be achieved from the jet guard at the stern or via the hydraulic bow door which has controls at the bow and the helm station. The hull structure for this boat incorporates lifting eyes to be employed during the transportation to its final location in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska where it will be used in the oil and gas industry.
