Armstrong Marine, Inc. completed a 30’ x 11’ welded aluminum fireboat for the Salem, Massachusetts Police Department. The catamaran is powered by twin E-TEC 250HP outboards. During sea trials in the Port Angeles harbor, the vessel achieved a top speed of 46 knots. The fuel system for the fire boat is comprised of two 100 gallon gasoline tanks for the motors as well as a small diesel tank to provide fuel for the cabin heater. The walk-around cabin has three doors for access port, starboard, and aft as well as two hatches in the roof. A sea chest built into the port side of the boat provides water for the marinized Darley fire pump. The main pump discharge is plumbed to an Elkhart fire monitor located on the bow of the craft next to the hydraulically operated bow door. The outfit also includes a portable diver recovery ladder, LED light bar, siren, thermal imagining camera, and radio direction finder. The vessel will be on display June 26-27 at the High Performance Craft Expo (HiPer Craft 2012) in Norfolk, Virginia before being delivered to its final location in Salem.
