Armstrong Marine, Inc. Sends 35' Catamaran to Afognak, AK

Afognak Wilderness Lodge (www.afognaklodge.com), located on the remote island of Afognak, AK, is running a new Armstrong Marine, Inc. catamaran. The new six-pack vessel is the second and larger of two Armstrong boats at the lodge. At an overall size of 35’ x 14’, the Vantage was designed and built with close collaboration between the owners of the lodge and Armstrong Marine. The boat derives its power from twin 300 horse power Yamaha outboards. These engines can be controlled from the exterior aft station or at the main helm, which features a leather, shock mitigating captain’s chair. The full walk around cabin comfortably seats ten passengers with two dinettes and an additional forward facing bench seat on the port side. Storage space is at a premium with shelves, cabinets, and gear lockers in every possible nook and cranny. The head compartment, containing a toilet and sanitary sink, can be accessed from port side deck.

The fore, aft, and side decks provide ample space for fishing and cargo. To make boarding, loading, and fish landing a synch, the Vantage includes a side boarding door, an extended “T” transom, and a hydraulic drop bow door with stainless steel rams. Directly in front of the hydraulic door, the forward cabin bulkhead contains a recessed vertical capstan used in pulling heavy loads onto the fore deck. The insulated fish wells in the aft deck have a pump driven seawater recirculation system keeping the days’ catch fresh all the way back to the lodge.
